Level up your breakfast with these Cookie Dough Baked Oats. They taste like a warm gooey chocolate chip cookie but are filled with good-for-you, simple ingredients. Enjoy these light, fluffy, and delicious oats anytime the craving hits. Added bonus - they are also gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free.

Three servings of chocolate chip cookie dough baked oats in white ramekins with a gold spoon in one.

Cookie dough baked oats took TikTok, and other social media platforms by storm, and for good reason! If you're looking for a wholesome and healthy breakfast or snack that satisfies your sweet tooth, this is sure to become one of your new favorite oatmeal recipes.

I've been eating overnight oats for over a decade, but more recently got into blending oats—and let me tell you they made their way up there to one of my favorite breakfasts. I'm a sucker for a good chocolate chip cookie, and when the craving hits I often end up making this blended oats recipe, because it's easier than baking up a batch of cookies—and—no leftovers!

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Easy To Make: This recipe is so easy to make, it takes a few minutes to prep, and then the oven does the rest.
    • Great For Meal Prep: You can make these as individual servings or as a big batch and store them in the fridge for quick and easy meal prep!
    • Wholesome Ingredients: All ingredients used in this breakfast recipe are minimally processed, wholesome ingredients, so you can feel good about what you are putting in your body.

    Ingredients

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Baked Oats labeled ingredients.
    • Gluten-Free Oats: Rolled oats (old-fashioned oats) or quick-cooking oats are best in this recipe. Look for brands that are organic with a glyphosate-free stamp of approval on them. Also, you will want to ensure your oats are also labeled as Gluten-Free. My favorite brands are Seven Sundays or One Degree Organic Oats (you can get a huge bag at Costco)!
    • Dairy-Free Milk: You can use any dairy-free milk for this recipe. Almond milk or Homemade Cashew Milk are my personal favorites. Coconut milk would also provide a nice flavor to this delicious recipe. You could also use oat milk if that's what you have on hand. If you are not avoiding dairy, use your favorite full dairy milk.
    • Banana: Use a soft, ripe banana, one with a few brown spots is ideal as the banana is the major sweetener for this recipe.
    • Egg: Organic cage-free egg if possible.
    • Baking Soda: Baking soda is what helps the baked oats rise.
    • Sea Salt: A pinch of sea salt will help balance out the flavors of the baked oats. Any sea salt will work, however, something like Redmond Real Salt is a great option.
    • Dark Chocolate Chips: To keep this recipe refined sugar-free, you will want to use chocolate chips or a chocolate bar like Hu.
    • Collagen Peptides: Using collagen peptides is completely optional. I like to add a scoop for a little extra protein.
    • Flakey Sea Salt: This adds a wonderful contrast to the sweetness of the baked oats.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Substitutions And Variations

    • High Protein: To really round out this breakfast and balance it across all macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fat) add a scoop or two of collagen peptides or a scoop of your favorite protein powder.
    • Extra Fat: If you want to add some extra healthy fat to these delicious baked outs, drizzle the warm oats with a spoonful of cashew butter, peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, or my Homemade Almond Butter.
    • Extra Sweetness: The banana and chocolate chips are the main sweeteners in this recipe. If you want an extra touch of sweetness you can add a little maple syrup to the batter.
    • Additional Add-ins: You can also add vanilla extract, chia seeds, or flax seeds if you like.
    • Chocolate Flavor: To make a chocolate variation, add 2-3 tablespoons of cocoa powder or cacao powder!

    Expert Tips And Notes

    • Use Ripe Bananas: Be sure to use ripe bananas as it's the perfect way to add natural sweetness to this baked oatmeal recipe.
    • Baking Time May Vary: Depending on the size of your baking dish and your oven, the baking time might differ slightly. Be sure to keep an eye on it.
    • Don't Over Bake: For the best texture, be sure to bake just until everything has cooked through. This will create a chewier texture. If you overbake it may turn out a little dense.

    Recipe FAQs

    Are oats good for you?

Oats can fit into a well-balanced diet, however, it's important to note that the nutritional benefits can vary depending on the type of oats you buy and how they are prepared. For the most bang for your buck, choose whole oats, such as old-fashioned rolled oats or steel-cut oats, and avoid highly processed oat products with added sugars and unhealthy fats. Additionally, always choose organic oats that are glyphosate-free.

Can you make baked oats with oat flour?

You certainly can. Blending the oats down is how you make oat flour, so you can use that as a substitute in this recipe if need be.

What's the difference between baked oats and oatmeal?

The main difference between the two is texture, along with the addition of extra ingredients. Traditional oatmeal is made by heating up oats and water or milk, and it is typically served with toppings.
On the other hand, baked oats are made by blending oats, milk, eggs, and banana into a batter, and then baking them in the oven.
