This quick and easy Hot Honey Mustard Sauce is a game-changer for your favorite dishes! Drizzle it over crispy chicken tenders, or spread it on sandwiches for an instant flavor boost. With just the right balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy, this sauce will quickly become one of your favorites.  Bonus: it comes together in just 5 minutes!

A white bowl of creamy mustard dip with a spoon, placed on a tray next to roasted sweet potato wedges. The tray is lined with brown parchment paper, and the sweet potatoes are vibrant orange.

I love a great dipping sauce, be it Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip, homemade Caesar dressing, BBQ sauce, Lemon Yogurt Dill Sauce, or my Smashburger Sauce-a good condiment is one of my favorite ways to elevate a dish.

I view hot honey mustard sauce as the fiery cousin of traditional honey mustard. While classic honey mustard leans sweet and tangy, this version adds a bold kick from the hot honey. It truly is the perfect combination of flavors.

My version is also made with and handful of simple ingredients that you already likely have in your pantry! It's the perfect dipping sauce for Chicken Strips and Sweet Potato Fries, or drizzle it over Smoked Asparagus.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Ready In 5: This sauce comes together so quickly. You can whip it up while your main dish is cooking.
    • Simple Ingredients: No fancy items are needed-everything is pantry-friendly!
    • Versatile Sauce: Use it as a dip, spread, or salad dressing! You can also customize the heat level to your liking.

    Ingredients

A glass bowl with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard, a glass dish with hot honey, and a wooden honey dipper on a rustic wooden surface.
    • Dijon Mustard: I love using Dijon mustard for this sauce, but you can use stone ground mustard, spicy mustard, or regular yellow mustard. Whatever you have on hand will be just fine.
    • Mayonnaise: Be sure to read the label! You will want to use an Avacado Oil mayonnaise. My favorites are Primal Kitchen or Chosen Foods.
    • Hot Honey: Grab your favorite one from the store. Look for a brand that only contains raw honey, chili peppers, and vinegar. If you don't have hot honey on hand, you can use regular honey and add some red pepper flakes or a pinch of cayenne pepper.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Substitutions And Variations

    • Extra Spicy Kick: Try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra spicy flavors.
    • Creamier: If you like your honey mustard even creamier, add more mayo. Adjust the amounts to suit your taste buds!
    • Vegan: You can make this vegan-friendly by using vegan mayonnaise, and swapping out the honey for maple syrup and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
    • Salad Dressing: Turn this into a honey mustard dressing for salads by thinning it out with a little water and a splash of apple cider vinegar.

How To Make Spicy Honey Mustard Sauce

This is an overview with step-by-step photos. Full ingredients & instructions are in the recipe card below.

A glass bowl on a wooden surface contains ingredients including mustard, mayonnaise, honey, and a thick paste, with a honey dipper next to it.

Step 1. Add all ingredients into a small bowl and mix to combine.

A clear bowl of honey mustard salad dressing, visibly containing small specks, sits on a rustic wooden surface. A silver spoon rests in the bowl, and a honey dipper lies nearby.

Step 2.  Taste and adjust heat as needed.

    Nadia's Expert Tips And Notes

    • Start Small on Heat: Not sure how much spice you can handle? Add hot honey gradually and taste as you go.
    • Use Quality Mustard: Dijon mustard adds the perfect tangy kick-don't skimp!
    • Balance the Flavors: If the sauce has too much of a tangy flavor, add a touch more hot honey or regular honey to balance it out.
    • Double the Recipe: This sauce disappears fast, so consider making a double batch for parties or meal prep!

What To Serve With Hot Honey Mustard

    • Dipping Sauces: Use as a dipping sauce for baked chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, french fries, chicken wings, or a turkey burger.
    • Toppings: Drizzle over grilled chicken, chicken fingers, fried chicken, pork chops, or grilled salmon.
    • Salad Dressings: Thin it out with a splash of olive oil or apple cider vinegar to create a tangy dressing perfect for spinach salads, kale slaws, or roasted veggie bowls.
    • Breakfast Pairings: Spread it on breakfast sandwiches for a bold start to your day or drizzle over a sheet pan breakfast hash. It's also a fantastic addition to avocado toast topped with poached eggs.
    • Snacks: Pair it with soft pretzels, buffalo wings or crackers for a quick and satisfying snack.
    • Wraps and Bowls: Use it to dress grain bowls or use it as a spread for wraps.
    • Side Dishes: Serve it alongside roasted Brussels sprouts, and smoked asparagus, for a tangy dipping sauce.

    Storage And Reheating

    • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container or mason jar in the fridge for up to a week. You can make a batch in advance and use it for meal prep all week long!
    • Reheating: Allow the sauce to come to room temperature and give it a gentle stir before serving.
